For Totoro fans :)

Summer Totoro bento!, originally uploaded by kickintheheadcomic. Discovered via Flickr interestingness.

The cool thing about this bento box -- besides the fact that this is Ohmigod-cute-even-if-you're-not-a-Totoro-fan -- is that it actually has all the key food groups: fish (well fake crab meat anyway), meat, rice, egg, and veg are all there.

Wish someone will make that for me! My school lunch boxes were nowhere near as nice when I was a kid. It cannot help but brighten up even the gloomiest day when you open up your lunchbox and are faced with a zany smile from a joyful Totoro being chuffed to bits with its slice of watermelon. This is indeed happiness in a box!

Update: Just discovered the creator of these supercutielicious bentos: Anna the Red, who has a most wonderful and awe-inspiring blog with step-by-step guides on how to make this and many other unbelievably cute character-bentos (including Wall-E and Calvin and Hobbes!!) Am made speechless by her jaw-dropping creativity!

Incidentally there is an article in today's Times that says about bento box. I hope the link works for you. Lunch in NYC is around $10 now.

Thanks for the link LCL, it's a good article. Somehow I think it's unfair though that Anna the Red wasn't featured anywhere in it even though apparently she's also based in NYC.

Anyway, can't believe it's the 8th anniversary of 9/11 already. Saw some photos of the commemoration on the Guardian site. Take care and have a good weekend.
